What Happened During the First Day in Montreux?

Peace talks to negotiate an end to the conflict in Syria began today. Andrew Bowen, scholar for the Middle East, told Syria Deeply that President Assad will not be very accommodating: "To move these talks forward, the opposition needs to find a way to get him to give up power, but it’s not going to happen by immediate demand. Assad has come into the talks feeling he's winning, while the U.S. and the opposition think he's in a position of weakness."
