U.S. Arrests a Mexican State Attorney General for Drug Trafficking

Mexico Center director Tony Payan comments on corruption in Mexico in light of the arrest of an attorney general for the Mexican state of Chihuahua on drug trafficking charges.

Mayan told The Wall Street Journal that Chihuahua is experiencing a battle as drug gangs fight for control of drug trafficking routes into the U.S.

“You had a kind of pax mafiosa throughout the state,” he said. “You now have both a new governor and a new underworld dynamic in the state. All these cross currents create a more turbulent environment.”
