Secretary Baker's statement on the death of George P. Shultz

"George Shultz was a rare breed of American whose multifaceted career in public service, business and academia is unparalleled. He was one of only two people to hold four government cabinet positions, a business titan who ran one of the largest construction companies in the world, and a renowned economist at MIT and the University of Chicago. As Secretary of State for President Ronald Reagan, Shultz was also a skilled diplomat who understood the critical importance of personal relationships in international relations — an approach that was indispensable in the peaceful end of the Cold War," said Secretary Baker.
