The National Academy of Public Administration recently awarded its Elliot L. Richardson Prize for Excellence in Public Service to The Honorable James A. Baker, III, former secretary of state and honorary chair of the Baker Institute. The Honorable George J. Mitchell was also a recipient this year.
Honorees are selected because they have demonstrated achievement, by significantly advancing the public good; long-term dedication to public service, by serving the public interest in a public service capacity; and generosity of spirit, thoughtfulness in the pursuit of excellence in government, courage and integrity.
