Mr. Baker negotiates compromise on Eisenhower Memorial
A year-long impasse involving the construction of the Dwight D. Eisenhower memorial in Washington, D.C., recently came to an end with the help of James A. Baker, III. Questions about the design of the memorial had stalled the project, which Congress authorized in 1999. Mr. Baker joined the memorial’s advisory committee last year, and the agreement to move forward with the plan he negotiated was announced Monday (9/19). Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., chair of the Eisenhower Memorial Commission, praised Mr. Baker "for his work with the Eisenhower family in creating a compromise that makes all parties pleased with the outcome.”
