Courts Could Put Texas GOP's Aggressive Agenda to the Test
Several bills pushed forward by the Texas Legislature are likely to face legal challenges, including a new law targeting sanctuary cities that refuse to cooperate with immigration enforcement agencies and a "bathroom bill" passed by the House that would require students at public and charter schools to use the restroom that corresponds to the gender on their birth certificates. Making Houston a Hub for Innovation
Edward J. Egan, director of the McNair Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, appeared on Houston Matters to discuss strategies for increasing innovation in Houston, particularly in attracting and supporting high-tech startups. “Economic growth in the U.S. right now is primarily driven by high-growth, high-tech startup firms, and this is something we have been a little bit slow at getting to,” Egan said. “There are great initiatives underway and I believe we are about to turn a corner, but we have some work to do in this space.”

Turkish President Erdogan meets with President Trump
Ambassador Edward P. Djerejian, director of the Baker Institute, provided commentary and analysis during Bloomberg TV’s live coverage of Turkish President Recep Erdogan’s visit to the White House for a meeting with President Donald Trump on U.S.-Turkish relations, terrorism and the Syrian crisis. “It’s in the interest of any leader of Turkey to maintain that relationship with the United States, so in a broad geopolitical context, this is a very important meeting for both sides,” Ambassador Djerejian said.
