Biography

Sandra McKay, M.D., FAAP, is the Huffington Fellow in Child Health Policy at the Center for Health and Biosciences. She is also a general pediatrician and an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

At the Baker Institute, McKay will focus on the CHB’s new Firearm Injury Prevention and Safety program.

McKay is also the director of advocacy for the Department of Pediatrics and the principal investigator for Injury Free Coalition for Kids Houston. She has served as a strong advocate for children, and is a past president of the Missouri chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is active in the Texas Pediatric Society and serves as the co-chair of its Executive Legislative Committee. She has worked to develop innovative educational programs to improve firearm safety within the clinical encounter and is active in advocacy efforts toward safe firearm storage.

McKay holds an M.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia and completed her residency at Saint Louis University/Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
