Scholar for Entrepreneurship

Biography

George Webb, J.D., is the McNair Center scholar for entrepreneurship, where he leads the analysis of entrepreneurial ecosystems and identifies opportunities and priorities for collaboration with start-up accelerators, technology incubators, and other segments of the Houston entrepreneurial community. He is also the industry liaison for the Rice University School of Engineering.

Webb came to Rice after many years in private practice as a patent attorney, representing clients ranging from solo inventors to technology companies including Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Xerox, Lenovo, Acer, Amkor and AnologicTech. In that capacity, he was one of a handful of U.S. lawyers selected for the Global Fellows program, an international collaboration of the Federal Circuit Bar Association, and the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property.

Prior to practicing law, Webb worked as an engineer for ExxonMobil and as marketing manager for a private business. Webb is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, the International Trade Commission, Texas state and federal courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. His professional memberships include the IEEE, Federal Circuit Bar Association, Houston Intellectual Property Law Association and the Engineering Development Forum.

Webb earned a J.D. from Tulane University Law School and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering from Rice.
