Award-winning producer, director, author and consultant Gary A. "Rusty" Fleming Jr. draws upon his extensive understanding of Mexican drug cartels to explain the inner workings of the drug trade, the violence it breeds and the way it preys upon teenagers in particular. Recognized by the national media and law enforcement agencies as an expert on Mexican drug cartels, he has interviewed dozens of active cartel operatives from Mexico and the United States, ranging from street dealers to the upper management of the most powerful drug trafficking organizations. Fleming produced the award-winning documentary "Drug Wars: Silver or Lead" in 2008 and authored the book "Narco-Warfare in the 21st Century" in 2009.

Baker Institute fellow in homeland security and terrorism Joan Neuhaus Schaan will present background information about the violence in the borderlands at 4:00 pm.
