Now in its 14th year, the Baker Institute’s Jesse Jones Leadership Center Summer in D.C. Internship Program offers Rice undergraduates the opportunity to get hands-on policy experience by providing stipends that cover their summer living expenses in Washington, D.C.
The internships allow students to integrate classroom theory with its evaluation and application in real life. The students have conducted policy research at the State Department, the Council of Economic Advisers, the Middle East Institute, the Urban Institute, the National Science Foundation, the Center for American Progress, the American Enterprise Institute, the Humane Society and the American Civil Liberties Union, among others.
On September 9, each member of the 2017 D.C. internship class presented his or her summer research project to Baker Institute fellows, Rice faculty members and former D.C. interns, who provided critiques and other feedback.
