Causes and Consequences of World War I: Can the Past Speak to the Present?

One hundred years ago, World War I — a war that few wanted and few expected — left millions dead, destroyed and expanded empires, spawned revolutions, and devastated Europe physically and spiritually. We continue to live in the shadow of that war today.  A panel of distinguished historians discuss how it happened, what it means and whether the catastrophe that happened then can offer lessons for avoiding catastrophes that threaten now.
