Although Texas had the highest uninsured rate in the U.S., former Texas Gov. Rick Perry turned down expanded Medicaid funding under the Affordable Care Act. Florida, which also rejected Medicaid expansion, was recently told by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services that federal funding will lapse at the end of June unless the state changes its mind. Should this come to pass in Texas, it would lead to a financial and health care disaster if the state continues to refuse expanded Medicaid funding under the ACA.
