Vecinos Lecture Series
- PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
-
As part of our public outreach to the Houston community and beyond, the Latin American Initiative has initiated the Vecinos (Neighbors) Lecture Series, a speaker series addressing a variety of important topics related to Latin America. World-renowned writer Carlos Fuentes formally launched this series at the Baker Institute in April 2008, discussing what “A New Deal” between Latin American and the United States should include in the context of contemporary realities. Future themes for the series under consideration include security and the rule of law, social entrepreneurship as a means for change, energy policies and outlooks, and tensions between “winners” and “losers” in the new market-friendly lefts.
