The Medicine, Research and Society Public Policy Issues Series is a joint
project between the Baker Institute Science and Technology Policy
Program and The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. The series is dedicated to educating the public on the
important intersection of science, medicine and policy at the state and
national levels. The mission of the program is to expose scientists and future scientists
to the idea that their responsibilities expand outside of the laboratory in
addition to highlight major issues impacting biomedical research. It also
provides an opportunity for the general public to hear eloquent scientists and
engineers discuss their experiences and interests, hopefully promoting science
and engineering as a public good and worthy of federal, state, and local
funding.
