Chevron Excellence in Leadership Energy Lecture Series
- PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Liberian president and 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was the inaugural speaker for the Chevron Excellence in Leadership Energy Lecture Series in April 2012.
The Chevron Excellence in Leadership Energy Lecture Series is the Baker Institute Energy Forum’s flagship energy speakers program, highlighting bold leadership in policymaking, statesmanship, innovation and best practices toward solving the world’s energy challenges. Reflecting the vision of the institute’s honorary chair, former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker, III, and Chevron, the program seeks to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of leaders in energy and to bring important perspectives and ideas to the public. Senior policymakers, industry leaders, students, scholars and the media attended the lecture series.
The ability of the Baker Institute to attract world leaders to the Rice University campus, in combination with Chevron’s generous support, has helped make the institute one of the nation’s most widely recognized and respected public policy think tanks on energy policy. The Energy Forum, dedicated to the promotion of independent, informed and forward-thinking discussion, has hosted a number of distinguished guests, including the Chevron lecture series' inaugural speaker, Liberian president and 2011 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
