Biography:

Patrick McAnaney, a history and policy studies major from Bethesda, Md., graduated from Rice University in 2010. In 2008, he assisted Gabriela Boyer, representative for Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay of the Inter-American Foundation in Washington, D.C., with research evaluating the effectiveness of local recycling initiatives in Latin America nations. He presented the results of his research, “From Rags to Riches: Community-based Recycling Initiatives in Latin America,” at the Baker Institute in August 2008. Patrick was recommended for participation in the program by Ronald Soligo of the Department of Economics of Rice University. In fall 2008, he studied in Bolivia, and in spring 2009 was elected president of the Student Association at Rice. In 2010, he began research on community recycling initiatives in Brazilian cities as a J. William Fulbright predoctoral research fellow.
