Biography:

Kara Calhoun, a senior from Tyler, Texas, majoring in anthropology and health care management, assisted Molly Singer of the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems in Washington, D.C., with looking at public health care policies in summer 2009. She presented the results of her research, “Disproportionate Share Payments: The Safety Line for the Safety Net,” at the Baker Institute in August 2009. She was recommended for participation in the program by Baker Institute science and technology fellow Kirstin Matthews, with whom she has worked with as a research intern since 2008. In January 2010, Kara began work as a research intern at M. D. Anderson Cancer Research Center.
