Biography:

Jingyuan Luo, a senior from Chandler, Ariz., majoring in biochemistry and policy studies, assisted researchers Alan Tessier and Rita Teutonico of the National Science Foundation in summer 2010, looking at policies on the environmental impact of nanotechnology. She presented the results of her research, “Examining Trends in the Environment, Health and Safety, and Ethics and Societal Components of Nanotechnology Research,” at the Baker Institute in August 2009. She was recommended for participation in the program by Professor of Kinesiology Nick Iammarino. In summer 2009, she also received a Loewenstern Fellowship to support volunteer work with schools and museums in Xi’an, China. In spring 2010 she studied at Sciences Po in Paris and assisted in the nanotechnology policy research of the Health and Environment Program of the French Institute for International Relations. Jingyuan began a research internship with the Baker Institute Science and Technology Policy Program in summer 2010, and has been the chair of the Rice Undergraduate Research Symposium since 2008.
