Biography:

Bhavika Kaul, a biochemistry and policy studies major from Katy, Texas, graduated from Rice University in 2009. She assisted in research on the brain drain phenomenon in health care and global AIDS policy with Dr. Vishal Patel at the American Medical Student Association in summer 2007. She presented the results of her research, “Access to Essential Medicines: Developing Nations Fight for Lower Drug Prices,” at the Baker Institute in September 2007. Kaul was a student research intern in the Baker Institute Science and Technology Policy Program in 2006, and she was recommended for the Jesse Jones summer program by Neal Lane, Malcolm Gillis University Professor and senior fellow in science and technology policy at the Baker Institute. Kaul began studying at Baylor College of Medicine in 2009 and received a Schweitzer Foundation Fellowship to work with Healthcare for the Homeless to improve health services for Burmese and Bhutanese refugees in Houston.
