Apoorva Shah
Apoorva Shah, a Hispanic studies and policy studies major from Sugar Land, Texas, graduated from Rice University in 2008. He assisted in research on private sector international development and community development, with a focus on Latin America, working with research fellow Mauro de Lorenzo of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in Washington, D.C., in summer 2007. He presented the results of his research, “Promoting SME Development through Venture Philanthropy,” at the Baker Institute in September 2007. Apoorva’s participation in the program was recommended by Kellie Sims-Butler of the Office of International Scholarships and Fellowships at Rice University. He received a Rice University Wagoner Fellowship in 2007 to study in Brazil, where he was a visiting researcher at Ashoka: Innovators for the Public. In 2008, Apoorva began work as a research assistant in foreign and defense policy with Nicholas Eberstadt at AEI. In 2010, he was appointed a research associate and Jacobs Associate at AEI, examining the political economy of emerging countries, international security and development policy focusing on South Asia and Latin America. He is also a Washington Fellow at the National Review Institute and a Publius Fellow at the Claremont Institute. |
