Rice University engineering students Vivas Kumar ¬タリ14 and Robyn Moscowitz ¬タリ12 spent the summer interning at Houston City Hall as part of an internship program sponsored by the Baker Institute and Rice Center for Engineering Leadership (RECL). The students blog that the internships gave them a chance to use their technical skills to develop solutions to on-the-ground challenges faced by city officials and workers:

"During our three-month internship, we focused on three broad projects: investigation of the management and tagging of email correspondence, study of a knowledge management strategy with open source software components, and the development of smartphone mobile data entry in the city"s Neighborhood Protection Corps."
