Gabriel Collins is the Baker Botts Fellow in Energy & Environmental Regulatory Affairs for the Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies. He was previously an associate attorney at Baker Hostetler, LLP, and is the co-founder of the widely regarded China SignPost™ (洞察中国) analysis portal. Collins has worked in government and as a private sector global commodity analyst and investment advisor, authoring more than 100 commodity analysis reports, both for private clients and for publication.
Collins’ research focuses on commodity market conditions and opportunities, which draws from his proprietary network of contacts, fuses geospatial and market data, and incorporates insights from sources written in Chinese, Russian and Spanish. Prior to entering law practice, he conducted approximately 20 due diligence, market analysis and investigative engagements on U.S. and foreign business entities and people in opaque, information-poor environments on behalf of clients, including a major global hedge fund. His research also analyzes upstream oil and gas, crude-by-rail, gasoline and distillate markets, multiple legal and national security issues, proppants, oilfield services, building materials and water resource governance.
Collins received his B.A. from Princeton University and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
