Neal Lane and Rick Smalley were both signatories of the Feb. 19, 2004, letter from the Union of Concerned Scientists regarding scientific advice in the Bush administration. The letter addresses the issue of distortion of scientific knowledge for partisan political ends in the Bush administration.
