- Event Description
-
Yair Hirschfeld, the Isaac and Mildred Brochstein Fellow in Middle East Peace and Security in Honor of Yitzhak Rabin at the Baker Institute, discusses the rationale and content of a suggested five-component strategy for dealing with the current dilemmas faced in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. This strategy includes bottom-up movement toward a two-state solution, de-escalation in Gaza, developing phases of progress for the Arab Peace Initiative, dealing with Iran, and preparing a U.S. bridging proposal for an Israeli-Palestinian Treaty of Peace. Hirschfeld will also use four narratives — two Israeli and two Palestinian — to illustrate the point that, in order for peace negotiations to succeed, the narratives of both sides of the conflict should be complementary and possibly overlap.
