Event Description

Sergey Kislyak is the ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States. His career at the Foreign Ministry of the Soviet Union began in 1977. Kislyak was deputy minister of foreign affairs from 2003 to 2008 and holds a diplomatic rank of ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary. From 1998 to 2003, he was ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Belgium, as well as permanent representative of Russia to NATO in Brussels.

His many previous appointments include director of the Department of Security Affairs and Disarmament of the Foreign Ministry of Russia (1995-1998) and director of the Department of International Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Foreign Ministry of Russia (1993-1995). From 1985 to 1989, he was first secretary and counselor of the Embassy of the USSR in the United States, and from 1981 to 1985 he was second secretary of the Permanent Mission of the USSR to the United Nations in New York.
