- Event Description

The use of embryonic stem cells in research has become a highly complicated and politically charged issue. This conference will discuss the complexities of this research policy in Texas and examine future policy alternatives by looking at initiatives outside the state. The goal is to introduce a new and more effective dialogue regarding safeguards against reproductive cloning and other unethical practices while advancing research in the state. This conference is the second major stem cell conference in the Baker Institute's Science and Technology Policy Program's series, "Stem Cells: Saving Lives or Crossing Lines."
Sponsored by James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy, The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and UK Science and Technology Section of the British Consulate General.
