Diana C. K. Untermeyer lived in Doha from 2004 to 2007 while her husband served as U.S. ambassador to the State of Qatar. While there, Mrs. Untermeyer was active with women’s and children’s programs and in the conservation, arts and health communities. She participated in numerous equestrian sports and won top rider for the 2006-2007 endurance season. Her book “Qatar: Sand, Sea and Sky” (Bright Sky Press, 2011) provides an inside look at the moderate Muslim country as it works to modernize and engage with the world without losing its heritage. Before leaving for Qatar, she was director of communications for Christ Church Cathedral in Houston, Texas. She served on the boards of the Houston Zoo, Zoo Friends of Houston, Inc., and Hermann Park Conservancy. Previously, she worked as a wilderness guide, a liaison between the Vice President’s Office and the Presidential Task Force on Regulatory Relief, an advance representative for then-Vice President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush, and as executive assistant to the counsel to President Bush. Mrs. Untermeyer graduated in 1984 with a B.A. from the University of Virginia and is a member of The Raven Society, Phi Beta Kappa Society and Delta Delta Delta sorority.
