Jehan Sadat is an author, educator, lecturer and activist for women, children and worldwide peace. The widow of the late Egyptian president and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Anwar Sadat, she delivers a timeless message of hope, love and peace that transcends gender, culture and age in her new book “My Hope for Peace.”
Sadat has devoted her life to public service and continuing her husband’s mission of peace in the Middle East and maintaining his legacy through her writings, public appearances and as the Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development at the University of Maryland.
Her achievements as Egypt’s first lady include the reform of Egypt’s personal status laws as well as the establishment of Wafa ‘Wal Amal, the first and largest rehabilitation center in the Middle East; SOS Children’s Villages for the orphans of Egypt; the Talla Society, a cooperative for poor village women; hospice care; and educational opportunities for the disabled.
Having earned her master’s and doctorate degrees with honors from Cairo University, Sadat has received more than 25 honorary degrees, as well as numerous other international awards and honors. She is a published poet and is also the author of “A Woman of Egypt.”
