This lecture series features significant public intellectuals and governmental figures from Mexico addressing topics including fine arts, energy, development, immigration and security. The goal of this discussion is to foster cross-border collaboration and understanding between Mexico and the United States. This series inaugurates the Humanities Research Center’s Public Humanities Initiative, a program that presents important speakers to public audiences, addressing matters of broad humanistic concern as well as public interest. Miguel Székely currently serves as Mexico's undersecretary of higher education, and previously he was undersecretary of planning and evaluation of the Secretariat of Social Development. He has been a professor and researcher at El Colegio de México and the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), where his research focuses on poverty and inequality in Mexico and Latin America. Székely has a Ph.D. in economics from Oxford University and a master’s degree in public policy from ITAM .
