- Event Description
-
Stuart P.M. Mackintosh is executive director of the Group of Thirty (G30), a private, nonprofit, international body composed of senior representatives of the private and public sectors and academia. Drawing on the recent work of the G30 that has shaped the international agenda for financial reform, Mackintosh will discuss why the American system of financial regulation is fundamentally broken. He will identify what needs to be done to reform and strengthen American capitalism, and discuss why U.S. financial markets need to be more resistant to financial crises. Mackintosh will outline steps that can be taken to ensure that, in the future, taxpayers are not left with a bill caused by unacceptable private risk-taking by major corporations. Finally, he will comment of the myriad of challenges facing reformers in the United States and internationally as they see to make the global financial markets more stable.
