Rice University and the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy will host an hour-long town hall meeting with Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 28 in Baker Hall.

In addition to McCain, Democratic Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee and Rep. Ron Paul were invited to participate in individual town hall forums on campus. No other candidates had responded as of Feb. 21.

Currently the senior senator from Arizona and a resident of Phoenix, McCain was elected to Congress in 1982. In 1986 he was elected to succeed Barry Goldwater in the U.S. Senate. McCain is the ranking member of the Committee on Armed Forces and also serves on the Commerce, Science and Transportation and Indian Affairs committees. McCain ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for president in 2000.

The town hall forum will consist of a 15-minute talk by the candidate and a 45-minute question-and-answer session.
