Energy Resources Down Under -- Right Place, Right Time

The Honourable Colin Barnett was elected the 29th premier of Western Australia in September 2008. He also is the minister for state development, responsible for major projects in Western Australia"s resources industry, which drives Australia"s economy.

As premier, Barnett has supported a strong pro-development policy with current projects that include a liquefied natural gas industry for the Kimberley region and a new deep sea port at Oakajee, near Geraldton. In Perth, there are plans to sink the railway and develop a major city square and waterfront tourism area.

Previously, Barnett had served as a minister for resources development and energy. He has also served as education minister, tourism minister and leader of the House in the Western Australian Parliament. Before entering politics, Barnett spent time as a university academic and as head of the Western Australian Chamber of Commerce. He graduated with a master"s degree in economics from The University of Western Australia.

The Baker Institute would like to thank Apache Corporation and Chevron Corporation for their generous support of this event.
