The State of Tamaulipas: A Conversation with Gov. Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca

Few states represent the complexity of Mexico as well as Tamaulipas. Abutting the Texas border in northeast Mexico, Tamaulipas has long been a hub of drug trafficking and a major passageway for undocumented migration, even as it has evolved into a thriving industrial state that hosts a major seaport and Mexico’s richest shale reserves. Nearly 60% of all trade between the U.S. and Mexico moves through the territory.

At this event, the governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca, discussed plans to bolster the state’s prospects by fighting drug-related violence, improving public safety and increasing shale gas and oil production.
