The 2016 presidential campaign was one of the most divisive in U.S. history. As a candidate, Ohio Gov. John Kasich presented his concerns for the country’s future and carried a political message based on reason, purpose and dignity.

At this Director’s Lecture Series event, Kasich participated in a moderated discussion with Baker Institute director Edward P. Djerejian. Following the conversation, he answered written questions from the audience.

Featured Speaker

The Honorable John R. Kasich was sworn in as Ohio’s 69th governor on January 10, 2011, and re-elected to a second four-year term in 2014. As governor, Kasich has promoted policies to produce a jobs-friendly climate, close an $8 billion state budget shortfall, reduce taxes, cut wasteful spending and eliminate red tape. In addition, he has addressed issues including drug abuse and addiction, infrastructure development, health care reform, immigration and international trade. Prior to Kasich’s gubernatorial terms, he served as a member of Congress from central Ohio for 18 years. After leaving Congress in 2000 and running for president, Kasich worked as a managing director in the investment banking division of Lehman Brothers. He is the author of four New York Times bestsellers, including “Two Paths: America United or Divided” (Thomas Dunne Books, 2017), which reflects on his 2016 presidential campaign and his hopes for America’s future. Kasich is a graduate of The Ohio State University.
