His Excellency Georgiy Mamedov, Ph.D., has served as Russia’s ambassador to Canada since 2003 and holds the diplomatic rank of ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary. He was previously Russia’s deputy minister of foreign affairs from 1991 to 2003. After entering diplomatic service in 1972, Mamedov was posted at the Soviet Embassy in Washington, D.C., from 1972 to 1973 and again from 1977 to 1981. He graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1970 and holds a Ph.D. in history.
