A two-day conference at the Baker Institute for Public Policy brings together experts from multiple sides of drug policy issues.ᅡᅠ The American "War on Drugs" is highly controversial, with critics pointing to the negative effects not only of drugs but also of such measures as increased punishment, interdiction, defoliation, and the massive expenditures involved in them. Responsible figures in other countries contend that American drug policy abets rather than hinders drug production. New approaches and promising measures that appear to be effective in other countries deserve serious, open-minded consideration by key shapers of public policy.
