Drawing on extensive new research, John M. Logsdon, Ph.D., professor emeritus of political science and international affairs at The George Washington University"s Elliott School of International Affairs and founder of the university"s Space Policy Institute, discusses his book "John F. Kennedy and the Race to the Moon" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2010). Logsdon presents a definitive account of Kennedy"s decision to send Americans to the moon and of how that decision was implemented by the president and his associates during his tragically short time in the White House. The book traces the evolution of Kennedy"s thinking and policies regarding Project Apollo, including his hope of collaborating, rather than competing, with the Soviet Union -- a possibility that was soon abandoned after his assassination.
