Event Description

“Uninsured Children in Houston: Health Policy Initiatives and Programs” aims to educate students, faculty and staff about the current status of the uninsured children in the City of Houston and Harris County. The region has one of the highest numbers of uninsured children in the nation, and thus the future health care system and methods of payment continue to be crucial issues in the upcoming election. Panelists will present a broad overview of current government programs available for uninsured children and discuss the merits and drawbacks of various proposals. Panelists include Sherea McKenzie, executive director of the Joint City/County Commission on Children of the Mayor’s Office, and Rosie Valadez-McStay, director of government relations for Texas Children’s Hospital. Karoline Mortensen, research scholar in the department of political science at Rice University, will moderate.
